Our Story

Umansky Medical Center has been around for more than 40 years. The family of surgeons believes that plastic surgery is what they were born to do. Our staff truly cares about helping each patient achieve his or her goals. Everyone who walks through the door is treated like an extended member of the family.

NARRATOR: For Dr. William Umansky and Dr. Jeffrey Umansky, performing plastic surgery is more than just a job. You see, it's been a part of their family history for more than 40 years. Their father Dr. Charles Umansky started the family practice back in 1972. DR. WILLIAM UMANKSY: I remember in high school he came to our school to give some lectures on plastic surgery and what he did, and I remember sitting in on one of those lectures and not only being fascinated, but also being very proud of him and the type of work that he did to help people, and I think that was my early motivation to go into plastic surgery. DR. JEFFREY UMANSKY: I think I was probably born to do this. My father and my brother having done it before me was certainly probably an influence, but was probably also a sign that it's in our genes. NARRATOR: The Umansky Medical Center for Plastic Surgery is located here in the 4100 Block of Regions Park Row in La Jolla. When patients walk inside, the quickly notice the warm and comfortable surroundings, and a staff that truly cares about helping each patient achieve their plastic surgery goals. In other words, every patient is treated like an extended member of the family. DR. WILLIAM UMANSKY: From the very start, with the initial phone call or email inquiry, I think patients find that our practice is a little bit different than a lot of practices. DR. JEFFREY UMANSKY: That's very important; we want the experience here to be very comfortable and genuine. BARBARA: They meet you, greet you, they know your first name, you feel like you're family, and when you see Dr. Umansky, it's the same way. He always gives you a hug and you get that warm and fuzzy feeling. NARRATOR: One of the aspects of this practice that patients really appreciate is the onsite state of the art plastic surgery center. The safety and privacy that this surgery center provides is second to none. DR. JEFFREY UMANSKY: Our facility is quad ASF certified, which is the highest standard that you can get outside of a hospital, and we find that safety is the most important aspect of our practice. We have four wonderful, board certified, anesthesiologists that rotate through, and have taken care of thousands of patients, and have done a wonderful job. WILLIAM UMANSKY: We find it really important to provide our patients with a natural look. Most patients really don’t want other people to know that they've had cosmetic surgery. They want to look great, they want to feel great, but they don’t want it to be obvious. DR. JEFFREY UMANSKY: What we're looking for is patients to look rejuvenated. We don’t want them to look different than what they're used to looking, we want them to walk into a room and have their friends and family say you know, something looks different about you, what did you do? Have you lost weight, have you been working out, you look really good. JEFFREY UMANSKY: I love what I do; it gives me an opportunity to interact with people, to get to know people, to hopefully make a very positive and everlasting change in their life. DR. WILLIAM UMANSKY: I think it's important for both myself and my brother to carry on the family tradition of providing plastic surgical services to the San Diego community. It's something that our name has been known for in this region, and I think it's something that we feel very good about being able to do.
