Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation at our La Jolla plastic surgery center will enhance the size and the shape of a woman's breasts. There are many reasons why a woman may consider breast augmentation with implants. The Procedure
Breast augmentation at our San Diego-area practice begins with an incision, usually made either in the crease of the breast or along the perimeter of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), depending on patient preference. Next, an implant pocket is created, usually behind the chest wall muscle. The implant is then placed and centered behind the nipple. Finally, the original incision is sutured and made as inconspicuous as possible.
Breast Lift
Pregnancy, weight loss, or the natural aging process can leave a woman with breasts that sag and lose their shape. A breast lift, or mastopexy, at our San Diego-area practice is a surgical procedure that reshapes and cosmetically improves a woman's breasts. After a breast lift, a woman will have breasts that are firmer, better shaped, and more youthful looking. The procedure is often combined with the use of an implant to achieve greater fullness and improved shape.
The Procedure
The most common approach to the breast lift procedure at our La Jolla clinic begins with anchor-shaped incisions designed to be concealed in the breast crease and around the areola. The surgeon then removes excess skin and repositions the nipple to give the breast an uplifted and more youthful appearance. In some circumstances, a periareolar mastopexy or a vertical mastopexy may be an option to minimize scarring.

Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is offered at our La Jolla medical center for women who desire smaller breasts. These women may have symptoms of back or neck pain, shoulder grooves, or rashes. The procedure is effective in relieving the symptoms of large breasts and can also eliminate the self-consciousness some women feel about the size of their breasts.
The Procedure
In the most common version of breast reduction at our San Diego-area practice, the surgeon makes an anchor shaped incision and then removes skin and breast tissue. The breast is reshaped and the nipples are elevated, creating a more aesthetically pleasing shape. The procedure is often performed on an outpatient basis.
Gynecomastia and Male Breast Reduction
