For most of us, the face is what makes the first and most lasting visual impression on others. It’s no wonder that facial procedures are among the most popular in cosmetic surgery; everyone wants to make a good impression. At Umansky Medical Center, we help our San Diego-area patients project the kind of image they want with facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgeries, rhinoplasty, and ear shaping to refine and improve facial features.
Umansky Medical Center offers facelift surgery at our San Diego-area practice in order to reverse the effects of aging, gravity, sun and wind exposure, and daily stress. A facelift can provide excellent results for patients with excess skin hanging from the neck or jowls. We do this by removing excess skin and fat, tightening facial muscles, and repositioning the facial skin. A facelift is frequently performed in combination with other facial procedures such as a forehead lift (brow lift), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), or nasal surgery (rhinoplasty).
A facelift at our San Diego-area medical center is carefully customized to compliment each patient’s unique bone structure, skin texture, and underlying muscle tone. Facelifts do not generally improve fine wrinkles, although excellent results can be achieved when a facelift is followed up with procedures that do improve skin texture, such as chemical skin peels.
Typical facelift incisions start behind the hairline at the temple, continue around behind the ear, and end in the hair behind the neck. The incisions are designed to be well hidden. The skin is then separated from the underlying fat. This fat is contoured to improve the appearance of the face. The surgeon then tightens the facial muscles as necessary and redrapes the skin back in place. Excess skin is removed. Very small stitches are used to close the incisions.
Browlift is a procedure used to elevate droopy eyebrows and to reduce forehead wrinkles and frown lines. It is often performed in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery.
The procedure is performed in the office on an outpatient basis. There are several types of brow lifts which can be performed. The best technique for you will be determined during your preoperative consultation.
Because many people feel that the size or shape of their noses doesn’t fit the rest of their faces, nasal refinement, also known as rhinoplasty, is one of the most common facial cosmetic procedures. An appealing facial profile, with a well-proportioned nose as its centerpiece, can greatly enhance a person’s self-image and self-confidence. The rhinoplasty procedures offered at our San Diego-area center can reduce or increase the size of the nose, narrow its width, or change the profile of the bridge or tip.
There are a number of variations on rhinoplasty, depending on a patient’s unique needs and desires. Your consultation with one of our experienced surgeons will help you decide which procedure will achieve your goals.
The surgeon starts with an incision inside the nose or across the vertical skin that separates the nostrils at the bottom of the nose. This allows separation of the skin from the bone and cartilage beneath, which is then sculpted to create the desired shape and size. The surgeon then closes the incision with sutures. A rhinoplasty procedure at our San Diego-area practice usually lasts one to two hours, depending on the extent of changes, and is an outpatient procedure.
The area around the eyes is particularly important to the overall appearance of the face. Puffy or wrinkled skin under the eyes and loose, sagging upper eyelid skin can make a person look tired or years older. Droopy upper eyelid skin can also interfere with vision. At Umansky Medical Center, we offer a procedure known as blepharoplasty to refine the upper and lower eyelids.
To decrease puffiness in the lower lid, the surgeon will make an incision along the natural crease just below the eyelashes and remove excess fat and skin. Because of the placement of the incision, the fine surgical scars are usually very inconspicuous.
Similarly, to tighten the upper lid, an incision is made in the crease above the lid. Excess skin is removed to smooth the eyelid and to raise it to a more youthful position. This is often done in conjunction with a brow lift, to give a refreshed appearance to the entire upper face.
Otoplasty is the reshaping of the ears, correcting ears that protrude noticeably from the sides of the head. Protruding ears can result in psychological trauma to children who endure teasing by their peers. Adults are not immune to the embarrassment of protruding ears, either. Reshaping of the ears can provide emotional and cosmetic benefits at any age.
To reposition the ears closer to the sides of the head, our surgeons will reshape the ears through small incisions behind the ears. Children may be candidates for this procedure by the age of six, when ear growth is largely complete.
